There are many types of caution signs that depend on what type of hazard a situation may pose. Caution signs can be seen on roads, in schools, in the workplace, businesses like shops or stores, and even in private properties. They are the primary measures to be observed before an individual proceeds with any activity.

Since there are many caution signs, here are the signs most commonly found in areas where people spend most of their time in:

On the road:

STOP – drivers must come to a full stop before driving through the intersection.

Pedestrian Crossing – this cautions drivers to slow down and give way to the pedestrians crossing ahead.

Yield – yield, pause or give way to other vehicles coming from the left of the intersection.

Blind Curve Ahead – this cautions the drivers to slow down and take caution when navigating through a blind curve that’s coming up.

35 MPH – this indicates the allotted speed a driver should take to reduce the risk of possible road accidents.

Inside business places or work fields:

No Smoking – prohibits smoking in areas where it poses an industrial hazard such as gasoline stations, or when highly combustible components are nearby.

No Cellphone Use – cellphone usage may cause frequency disruption to business transactions such as banks and other electronic devices in workplaces.

Authorized Personnel Only – this hinders the illegal entry of anyone who is not an employee of a business or workplace. Dangers such as unskillful handling of equipment or private documents are threats to the workplace.

Caution: Wash Hands First – this provides primary health risk prevention by promoting hand-washing to reduce the spread of diseases.

Caution: Wear Goggles and Gloves Before Handling Chemicals – this cautions workers to don the proper gear to avoid being exposed to harmful effects of chemicals.

Other places:

Caution: Slippery floor – this cautions individuals to avoid walking on the wet floor to prevent falls and injuries.

Caution: Slow Down, Children at Play – this slows down the drivers on streets and roads where children play or run through all the time thus preventing untimely accidents.

School and Church Zones – These cautions the drivers to keep their speed in check and are not allowed to blow their horns to prevent disruption of lectures in classes or sermons in the churches.

Danger: High Voltage – this prevents individuals from going near high voltage equipment which are deadly and fatal once touched.

Typically, caution signs are made of rust-proof aluminum for long life. Many of these signs are made with highly reflective surfaces to maximize visibility at night. Popular dimensions for these signs are 18"w x 12"h, 18"w x 24"h or 24"w x 24"h for those that are 4 sided and 16"w x 14"h for triangular ones.

The color schemes for warning signs are usually black wordings or graphics on a yellow background except for triangular warning signs. The latter usually have red graphics with a white background with a red border or an orange triangle with a reflectorized orange boarder for "caution slow moving vehicle" decals.

When going to work, school, or just any other place, caution signs are seen everywhere. These caution signs warns pedestrians, employees, and individuals the proper action they should take when they encounter the signs. Protecting and preventing people from the possible risks ahead are the caution signs primary purpose in this world.
